ビッグバンドのアレンジャーとして，さまざまな楽器から独創的なサウンドを作り出していたギル・エヴァンス．しかしこの作品は，ピアノとソプラノサックスだけという，シンプルな構成です．とつとつとしたギルのピアノ，シンプルなスティーヴ・レイシーのフレーズは，派手さこそありませんが，商業主義に走らない，音楽家の良心を感じさせます．
演奏されている曲には，ギルがビッグバンドで録音しているものも多いので，聞き比べるのもよいかと．

ジャズ入門者向けではないと思うので星４つとしましたが，ある程度ジャズを聴いている人には「星５つ」です．
