子供の頃に楽器を習っていたけれど、大人になる頃には弾かなくなってしまう人は多いと思う。
そして、なにかの機会にふと「あぁ、また弾きたいな」と思ったりする。
私もそんな1人。
そういう人には打ってつけの作品だと思う。無論、そうじゃなくても面白い。
ピアノの楽器としての構造や材質、ピアノ製造会社といった細かいお話。
ピアノの楽曲。
ピアノを教わる話。
ピアノと関わる人々のこぼれ話。
ピアノ工房で働く人々を通じて描かれる”フランス人って”な部分。
筆者のフランスへの暖かい眼差しや、ユーモアを交えた語り口によって”薀蓄”的部分もすんなり入って来る。
「ほー」と感心したり、頷いたり。
なかなかに面白くて濃いノンフィクション・エッセイでした。

アウトレットに家族で行き、買い物しているときに流れていて、誰の曲だったか、なかなか思い出せず、困っておりました。１９６０年代のオムニバスアルバムに収録されているのを見つけて、曲名がいとしのルネだとわかりました。さっそくネットで検索して収録されているこのアルバムを購入しましたが、ルネ以外にも聞きやすい曲が収録されており、ゾンビーズなどがお好きな人にもおすすめです。
